ABOUT ME

Jane Sparks was born and raised in Pennsylvania. In 2015, she received a BFA in Fiber and Material Studies from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. After graduating, Sparks participated in the inaugural Artist in Residence Program at her Alma Mater. She then worked at Free People HQ as Flat Stylist and Sample Coordinator. She chased the sun and moved to Southern California in 2016. She became the Art Director and Website Manager at Child of Wild. Jane accepted the position as Visual Display Coordinator at Anthropologie. She now lives in Portland, Maine and works as a freelance stylist and visual merchandiser.

Jane explores how femininity is assumed societally. She compares the role of femininity today with gender roles of the past by the abstraction of found objects and removing them from their original purpose. Sparks' expands on traditional fiber techniques to create innovative surface designs and sculptures. To showcase the devaluation of objects made by women’s hands, she utilizes techniques deemed crafty on familial objects and marries them with alternative materials through embellishing and feminizing.
